OPEN LETTER TO ALL REPUBLICAN SENATORS

During this fast and furious time of post-election, pre-inauguration activity and appointments, one typical event occurred that caught my attention. We know that House and Senate leaderships come up for a vote by their peers, and they will sometimes jockey or replace certain key colleagues in their leadership roles.

Since Mitch McConnell will be resigning as Republican leader of the Senate, it was incumbent upon the Republican Senators to choose their new leader—the one that will have to work most closely with President Trump. Personally, I don’t like secret votes. Unless I am wrong, the House does theirs out in the open with everyone and his brother knowing who voted for, or against, whom and why. Isn’t that otherwise known as “transparency?”

The Senate on the other hand is much more secretive. That right there makes them more suspect and less respected by the people, since they seem to have insulated themselves from the people. And that august body just elected Senator Thune from South Dakota to lead them. Now I have nothing personally against Senator Thune, save that I suspect he is a closet Never Trumper, acting like a totally supportive, engaged Republican.

The news has reported that Trump wanted Senator Rick Scott, and that he believed they could work best together in moving the President’s agenda forward. Yet, in their secret vote, only 13 Senators voted for Scott. Meaning that the majority of Republican Senators did not honor Trump’s request. They have that right of course. But I have something to say to all the Republican Senators.

It is in your best interest to assist this new President. Why? Not because you are pals. Not because you love him. Not because you fear him. And not because you are weak and can’t think for yourself. The simple reason is: the American people just elected him with an electoral mandate and the popular vote. Democrats, Independents, Republicans, Libertarians and Lord knows who else decided they had had enough of the Swamp. They chose a man of the people, whether you like him or not.

Disrespect Trump, fail to support his agenda, and you risk losing the support of the constituents who elected you. Why? The American people elected him, not you. I mean no disrespect here, but in this election, we did not vote for you. We voted for him. You were on the ballot, and so you got elected too. I know that may hurt. But it is the truth. Most of us don’t really give a darn about you. We care about Trump and what he endured and survived long enough in order for the people of this country to take responsibility and help him turn things around.

I like you senators. I especially like my senators from Montana. But if your egos get out of line, if your personal ambitions cause you to subtly sabotage what is a good course of action—a good piece of legislation—if your Washington DC habits take hold and cause you to behave like everyone else in the Swamp, I personally will view that as “business as usual” on your part. Regrettably, your business as usual with your “we know best” attitude has led to messes in every single category of our lives. Please don’t blame the Democrats only for this. They simply are a cunning, lying crew who took advantage of perceived self-righteousness in the US Senate. I doubt they hold any such delusions about the rowdy Republican House.

Remember, we voted for Trump. We like his ideas, his promises. And we watched him be obstructed for four years as President. We watched him be unjustly attacked time after time. And we watched some of you do nothing and say nothing. Then we watched you tolerate an obscene “impeachment of a non-President presided over by a non-Supreme Court Justice.” (The second impeachment trial) That, dear Senators, was a Kangaroo Court. Yet the American citizen had to be subjected to that.

Then we watched merciless vilification, criminal and civil cases, and trials. Despite the fact the polls were showing that Americans were increasingly calling this a persecution by legal means, you appear to have stood by. We stood by, faithfully, waiting for our opportunity to right the ship. There are 75 million of us. We waited. We worked. We spoke up. Some were cancelled and harmed. But on Nov. 5, 2024, we spoke. And you rode in on his coat tails.

I can only speak for myself of course, but I can assure you I will be watching my own Senators–but especially Senator Thune—to see if he is truly committed to advancing the agenda the incoming President has to: clean up Washington, bring peace around the world, restore the economy, stop the invasion of our country, lower prices everywhere, restore parental rights, restore a decent education for all the children in this country, bring opportunity to underprivileged areas, maintain religious freedom for all, restore free speech, stop the tyranny of the bureaucratic medical establishment and Big Tech, root out all wasteful government spending which is incentivized in the reverse, restore our disgraced Military—need I go on?!

We will keep track of it as a whole, and I expect you, Senator Thune, to help this man help us. To say it is a Herculean task is an understatement. I hope you are up to it. I am. And I would venture a bet that tens of millions of Americans are too. Do the right thing. Honor our wishes. Trump speaks for us. The Make America Great Again movement was never about one man. It was always about “we the people” and our wishes being heard.

I believe you are a good man, Senator Thune. And I believe the men and women who serve with you are likely, mostly good men and women. Just remember who’s boss. In the entertainment industry, which is my field, there is an admonition given to actors by their coaches. And that is: “Don’t read your own press clippings.” It can lead to a swollen sense of power, entitlement, and importance. Otherwise known as, my mother used to say, “A big head!”

Good luck to you, sir. Good luck to all Republican Senators. You can help make this a Golden Age for the United States, or just another four years of business as usual. Your choice.
